The Old Tower House School, Barmouth, Gwynedd
Set high above Barmouth, and enjoying superb panoramic views and spectacular sunsets over the bay, these well appointed properties are created from a complex of Victorian buildings. The town’s bustling shops, restaurants, pubs (nearest 250 yards), old harbour and seaside attractions, including a sandy beach, are within walking distance. Crossing the estuary (and an RSPB reserve) and winding round the coast, the railway offers scenic excursions to Machynlleth (site of the fascinating Centre for Alternative Technology) and Pwllheli. Fine sandy beaches and excellent walking, fishing and sailing are found along the coast. Harlech’s championship golf, theatre and massive castle are just 11 miles, whilst Portmeirion Italianate village and Porthmadog, home of the Ffestiniog and West Highland narrow guage railways, are about 15 miles. A fantastic range of outdoor activities, including climbing, walking, skiing and whitewater rafting, are available in the lakes and mountains of the Snowdonia National Park – and a trip up Mount Snowdon itself is a must, on foot or by train.
