Ptarmigan Lodge, Loch Lomond
Commanding an enviable waterside location on the banks of Loch Lomond (pictured), at the foot of Ben Lomond in Scotland’s first National Park, this imposing and very spacious lodge is the perfect holiday retreat boasting a large summer house with table football. Here visitors can relax, fish from the water’s edge or enjoy a stroll in 20 acres of lovely, peaceful grounds - a haven for wildlife, where deer, squirrels and numerous bird species are often spotted. Beloved of Walter Scott, the outstandingly beautiful landscape surrounding the lodge affords ample opportunities for exploring cycle trails, sailing, playing golf and superb walking - the West Highland Way passes close by. This is a 160 year old hunting lodge, formerly owned by the Duke of Montrose, and steeped in history. It is only one hour’s drive from Glasgow, yet its isolation one mile after the end of the west Loch Lomond side tarmac road, and one mile fom the youth hostel and public car park reduces foot traffic and eliminates all cars and other road users, ensuring peace and tranquility. Full of character, with its own water supply off the hill, it is comfortable and warm having both central heating and wood burning stoves. Its joy lies in its proximity to nature at its most magnifient and its relative isolation, whilst activities within the house and the immediate surroundings ensure a wonderful week whatever the weather. Restaurant at Balmaha (6 miles). Shops at Drymen (10 miles), and a pub serving food 2 miles.
