Also within easy reach is Hartland Abbey, Docton Mill Gardens and Clovelly, a picture postcard perfect village, where donkeys and sledges replace cars on the quaint streets lined with colourful cottages. Surfers will flock to Bude' extensive sands, Westward Ho! is always popular and the thriving fishing port of Bideford offers boat trips to Lundy Island. A little further afield to the north are the magnificent beaches of Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay (another must for surfers), world famous Woolacombe Bay and Ilfracombe. To the south are Tintagel Castle, legendary seat of King Arthur, the picturesque harbour at Port Isaac and the fishing port of Padstow, renowned for the quality of its seafood restaurants. The Eden Project (1 hour's drive) and glorious Dartmoor National Park make wonderful day trips. Local attractions for children include the Milky Way and Big Sheep. Riding, golf and cycling are available locally with sailing on the Tamar Lakes, 10 miles. There are pubs serving food and shops in Hartland (1.8 miles) by car or a 20 minute walk.
