With Selkirk, the setting for Sir Walter Scott's Courthouse, just 3 miles away, this is an ideal location for exploring many of the Border towns, including Melrose, venue for Scotland's oldest Rugby Sevens competition, Jedburgh and Mary Queen of Scotts House, Hawick, Galashiels and Peebles. For walking enthusiasts, the Southern Upland Way passes nearby and there are numerous marked walks around the Border towns, along riverbanks and in the surrounding countryside. Great mountain biking can be enjoyed at Glentress and Innerleithen and visitors to Hartwoodmyres also enjoy free fishing at nearby Maggets Reservoir. Clay pigeon shooting can be arranged at cost, riding and golf are available nearby, whilst 15 miles away, St Mary's Loch, the largest natural loch in the Borders, is a fine spot for sailing and fishing.
